LASIK Consultations and Appointments
Many patients find that neither glasses nor contact lenses are an ideal fit for their lifestyle. Laser eye surgeries such as LASIK can offer freedom from corrective eyewear and provide crisp, clear vision. During LASIK, a laser is used to gently reshape the cornea, or front part of the eye, to correct refractive errors like myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness).
LASIK is a very quick procedure with an extremely high satisfaction rate along with a low complication rate; in fact, most patients see 20/20 the next day!
Laser Eye Surgery Consultations
During your laser vision correction consultation, we’ll perform a series of tests to determine if you are a candidate. To begin with, you must be at least 18 years old and have a stable prescription prior to your surgery date, and your eyes must also be healthy and free of disease, so we’ll assess your vision prescription stability and ocular health as well as measuring your corneal thickness.
If we determine that you are a candidate for LASIK surgery, we will refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist for the procedure. We’ll also review potential risks and complications with you and answer any questions or concerns you may have. We know that undergoing any sort of eye surgery can be frightening, and we are here to support you and alleviate your fears.
Post-Operative Appointments
After your LASIK procedure, we’ll schedule a series of follow-up appointments with you at your nearest OPMT location so that we can monitor your healing process. This includes an appointment the day after your surgery, which is essential to confirm that the cornea is healing correctly.
Your vision may fluctuate for about the first six months after LASIK. We’ll then see you for several other follow-up appointments over the next few weeks and months to make sure your eyes are healthy and your vision is stabilizing, and to answer any questions you may have during the recovery process.
