Dr. Mike Hassell treated patients’ eyes in the Smith County region for more than 39 years. Throughout his career, Dr. Hassell consistently provided compassionate, individualized care, ensuring his patients received the attention and treatment they deserved.

After earning his Bachelor of Science from Lipscomb University, Dr. Hassell went on to achieve his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry. He was a fixture in the Carthage community as an optometrist who cared deeply for his patients, always going above and beyond to preserve their vision and maintain their eye health. Dr. Hassell appreciated the small-town nature of working in Carthage because it allowed him to make personal connections with those in his care.

In 2022, Dr. Hassell’s long time practice, Family Eye Care, proudly became the Carthage office of OPMT Vision Centers where he joined the OPMT team to continue providing exceptional care for the Carthage area.

A longtime resident of Smith County, Dr. Hassell now lives on a 50-acre farm with his wife, Melanie. When he wasn’t at the office, Dr. Hassell enjoyed taking care of the goats, cows, and chickens on the farm, as well as spending peaceful evenings with his wife in her flower garden. He remains an active part of the community he served, which included spending 15 years on the radio commenting on Carthage High School football.

Dr. Hassell retired in September of 2024 and still resides in Carthage where he remains an active and respected member of the community.
